Prosumer Economy : Being Like a Forest

Ece Satıcı ve Uygar Özesmi

Planetary life support systems are collapsing due to climate change and the biodiversity crisis. We have very little time. If current trends continue, human civilisation is facing collapse within the next 30 to 40 years. The root cause is the existing consumer economy, coupled with profit maximisation based on ecological and social externalities.

However, this trend can be reversed. With careful examination, we can see glimmers of hope all around us. These glimmers of hope include not only white-collar workers trying to buy organic products but also the efforts of people outside their personal lives to make their own companies carbon-neutral. There is also an increase in the number of people who define themselves as social entrepreneurs, focusing on ecologically and socially fair production rather than only entrepreneurs. These conscious, devoted people put all kinds of effort into their work, and their numbers are increasing day by day. It is not only the individuals that are transforming; the reasons for the existence of companies and their legal entity rights are also being questioned now. It is said that a company should increase its impact, rather than its profits. The glimmers of hope are growing brighter.
